The news page is now fixed and looks pretty great, if I do say so myself:
https://www.openchainproject.org/news

3 featured items and 10 news items display, with the option to load more
10
at a time.

Hi Shane,

Overall, I think the new website looks great - easy to read, good
graphics.
I also like how it is easy to navigate to the self-certification
webapp.

My only suggestion is on the news page - it took a little longer than
expected for the page to load. The web page is over 10K lines -
perhaps it could be broken down into some sub-pages or the content
dynamically loaded.

Gary

I don’t have the physical book, but according to the following file, it seems
to me like it is under CC-BY-ND. It would be useful if Editors could confirm
or deny it. Honestly, we haven’t discussed that yet, when the conversion to
MarkDown was started, which in hind-sight might have been a good to do.

The IFOSS Law Book as a whole is published under a CC-BY-ND license. The
text can be freely copied and shared by any party under these
conditions. Physical copies may be purchased, but it is also available
at no cost in electronic form at our website.
This is also reflected on the back cover:
<https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71IzcyhYgKL.jpg>

I could not find any copyright notice in it though, so I guess the authors
(and editors) still hold their respective rights.

That is, unfortunately, as much as I can help …apart from getting my act
together and working on cleaning up the MarkDown so it can be used to generate
PDFs and a website. Thanks for the gentle reminder ;)

Hi All

I’ve dug out some of the original documentation, and emailed you (authors) personally about it (as I don’t think it’s reasonable to put this on a public list). Except for Ywein. For some reason, Ywein, I kep getting email bounces from you: it’s nothing personal.

If there are any other authors on *this* list who want me to add them to the distribution list, let me know. I’m also copying in Iain Mitchell as he should be in the loop as well.

Re Finland, all these licenses are ok for me.

On top of the structure we derived from Ywein et al, if any, I believe we need to check what rights we gave to the publisher. In a pre-print copy of the work I have, the copyright is mentioned to belong to “Open Source Press”. Working from the distance, I don’t have access to my archives currently. Digging mails from 2010/2011 is of course an option too.

England and Wales: I’m a bit reluctant to use BY-SA as it does make it more difficult to quote parts of the book in other works. I’d be happy with CC-BY (but if the consensus is CC-BY-SA, then fine. Ultimately, since I think the Ur-chapter which we all based ours on was written by Ywein (correct me if I’m wrong), all chapters will ultimately be driven by his decision anyway)).

Hi,

I don't recall if we, as authors of individual chapters (need some updates), assigned our copyright to the publisher or else.

Personally I an Simone would be content with a cc-by of sort. I would be surprised if we stipulated anything more restrictive than by-sa.

Greetings all

Some years ago I was one of the editors of a law book covering open source country by country:
https://www.amazon.com/International-Free-Open-Source-Software/dp/3955391027

The book is now out of print but text files and all the other source material is right here:

I thought this might be useful. I just had a call today where I was asked about exactly this type of analysis.

An excellent point Jari.

Our primary webinar series has a dedicated page here but I clearly need to make it more visible :)

Re: Feedback Requested: Main Page Updates for Our Website

The news page is now fixed and looks pretty great, if I do say so myself:
https://www.openchainproject.org/news

3 featured items and 10 news items display, with the option to load more 10 at a time.

Hi Shane,

Overall, I think the new website looks great - easy to read, good graphics.
I also like how it is easy to navigate to the self-certification webapp.

My only suggestion is on the news page - it took a little longer than
expected for the page to load. The web page is over 10K lines - perhaps it
could be broken down into some sub-pages or the content dynamically loaded.

Gary

Martin von Willebrand

Re Finland, all these licenses are ok for me.

On top of the structure we derived from Ywein et al, if any, I believe we need to check what rights we gave to the publisher. In a pre-print copy of the work I have, the copyright is mentioned to belong to “Open Source Press”. Working from the distance, I don’t have access to my archives currently. Digging mails from 2010/2011 is of course an option too.

Best, Martin

Cheers

Greetings all

Some years ago I was one of the editors of a law book covering open source country by country:
https://www.amazon.com/International-Free-Open-Source-Software/dp/3955391027

The book is now out of print but text files and all the other source material is right here:
https://github.com/IFOSSLawBook/ifosslawbook

I thought this might be useful. I just had a call today where I was asked about exactly this type of analysis.

Re: Antwort: [openchain] Open Source Law Book

Oh! Interesting. Oversight. I’ll check with the other editors.

Hey Till, Ywein, which license should the book be under?

Hi Shane,

great stuff - thanks for sharing.

Under which license can we use this material?
(Sorry to ask, but it seems as there's no statement on that on the repo...)

Regards,
Stefan
