Re: A question about license translations in Chinese, Korean and German

Martin Bührlen

There are countless German language websites with information about OSS
licenses, but I am not aware of any 'official' website.

There is a private initiative (translated: )"Institute for Legal Issues of
the Free and Open Source Software (ifrOSS)" https://ifross.org/ which has a
pretty comprehensive list of licenses
https://ifross.github.io/ifrOSS/Lizenzcenter . But this is more directed
towards legal experts.

In my opinion, so far the best explanation in layman's terms is probably on
the German Wikipedia, which has a page for each of the mainstream licenses
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategorie:FLOSS-Lizenz.

More education is definitely needed for sw developers. I have heard so many
times "It's open source, so we can anyhow use it." which (as far as they are
aware) puts 0-BSD and AGPL into the same category.

Best regards

Martin

Korean and German

This is a question from the OpenChain Japan Work Group to our dear friends
who speak Chinese, Korean or German.

In Japan there is a convenient website with reference translations of the
OSI open source licenses:
https://licenses.opensource.jp/

The purpose of this translation set is to education regional engineers. It
is expected legal experts will read and use the original English terms.

The question is: do you have similar resources in Chinese, Korean and
German?

Re: [OpenChain-KWG] [openchain] A question about license translations in Chinese, Korean and German

SO COOL!

Now we can try and find a similar resource in Chinese, and maybe we can point to everything from OpenChain :)

A question about license translations in Chinese, Korean and German

This is a question from the OpenChain Japan Work Group to our dear friends who speak Chinese, Korean or German.

In Japan there is a convenient website with reference translations of the OSI open source licenses:
https://licenses.opensource.jp/

The purpose of this translation set is to education regional engineers. It is expected legal experts will read and use the original English terms.

The question is: do you have similar resources in Chinese, Korean and German?

Webinar #40 – FOSSLight (Korean with Chinese and Japanese Subtitles)

A quiet landmark for the OpenChain Project: our first non-English global webinar is presented in Korean with Simplified Chinese and Japanese subtitles. We are improving our communications to help more organizations from more places improve trust in the open source supply chain.
https://www.openchainproject.org/featured/2022/04/06/webinar-40

There is one request that comes with this webinar: if you are interested in FOSSlight please considering helping to translate it into more languages.

Welcome! The OpenChain Industry Survey 2022 covers a big topic: the global status of corporate engagement and management of open source. Please help us out by completing the survey from your perspective before May 1st.
https://forms.gle/9Jf9h1J6AwzFpMz89

We are considering open source from a “strategy” perspective rather than a “development” perspective. Our goal is to help inform project, product and supply chain decisions in the year ahead. This goes far beyond compliance, OSPO and any other single topic.

This survey is licensed under CC-0 so feel free to take it as the basis for your own surveys in the future.

Hi Shane,

Great work, results will be extremely instructive!

One remark though, concerning question "Why does your organization think open source is problematic?" - it uses radio button, so that only one answer can be selected.

Is that on purpose ? (as we do have multiple reasons :-) )

Thanks,

nico

Welcome! The OpenChain Industry Survey 2022 covers a big topic: the global status of corporate engagement and management of open source. Please help us out by completing the survey from your perspective before May 1st.

We are considering open source from a “strategy” perspective rather than a “development” perspective. Our goal is to help inform project, product and supply chain decisions in the year ahead. This goes far beyond compliance, OSPO and any other single topic.
